I know, I know… It’s been a couple of weeks since I got a blog post up and I am SO SORRY! Between summer reading, scheduling, and trying to take some vacation time, it’s been all-go around the library. BUT, things are slowing down and (hopefully!) I can get back on schedule to doing regular weekly posts. Fingers crossed.
If the idea of us being “busy” seems odd to you, or you have no idea how to keep up with what’s going on at the library (or about town), let’s talk about how to keep in the loop!
The first and most obvious one is right here –our website! I try incredibly hard to keep our calendar up to date with information about our programs and events, as well as extra closures, collaborations, and anything else that might be important to know happening in or around the library that we’re taking part in.
If you prefer to get several reminders, liking and following our Facebook page is probably your best bet. I (again, try!) to post at least once a day with information about us, other MORE consortium libraries, information about community events, opportunities for growth, education, or work, and anything else I come across that could be of use to the community. Facebook is also probably the easiest way to drop a note, send us a pic you took at a program, or share information with us. You can also Friend our Library Staff Account, which is typically me (Samma) and used for reposting our information to the local community group like, Cadott Wisconsin Happening Now. Note: We will NEVER send a friend quest from this account! If someone claiming to be the library (or me!) sends a request, please ignore or block and report).
Next, we have our Instagram which is probably the absolute WORST way to contact us. I fully admit: I cross-post everything using the Facebook Business Suite. I almost never open Instagram to do anything directly on it. It isn’t because I have an issue with IG. I just…forget about it. (This isn’t just a library work thing, I forget about my personal account too until my niece sends me cat videos…). HOWEVER! Since I do crosspost, you CAN still see most of our program event reminders and things like that, so if Instagram is YOUR Social of choice, you can follow us there too! (And maybe more followers will be an incentive for me to pay more attention to it?? Ehh? See how that works?)
I also recently started a TikTok account for the library. Now, it’s still new and it’s mostly me talking about…books and library stuff. Because Cindy and Lora are camera shy. And cameras mean literally nothing to me (…have you watched our unboxing videos I’ve been doing since 2020?). If we can hit 1000 followers on that account, I can go LIVE without restrictions and show off some of the other areas of the library in real-time and do more “behind the scenes of the library”.
As with ANY of our social media accounts, I am always open to content suggestions. If you have a theme suggestion for some book recs, send ‘em over. Want to know how we get the the plastic jackets on books? I actually have a video on that. Want to play a game of “Stump the Librarian”? Send in your question. And that goes for blog topics as well. It’s easy when we have a lot going on or I can recap something recent, but otherwise I have no idea what you’d like to read about each week. So help me out and drop those suggestions either on our socials, or send me an e-mail at cadottpl@cadottlibrary.org
