For the first time in nearly 3 months, the library sent out Overdue notices today. That has garnered a LOT of phone calls today, which is understandable.
All materials checked out prior to COVID-19 closures (and some even extend-dated after!) were due back to the library July 1st. We granted some leniency about returns, but it is time for those items to come back to the library, please. Starting last week, items were back-dated to the date of return, so overdue notices will be sent weekly at this point.
So, what should you do if you received an Overdue notice for an item you didn’t know you still had, or don’t know where it is?
1. Don’t panic! It’s (probably) fine.
2. Look for the item around your home (behind headboards is a popular spot!), in your vehicle(s), or with friends and family you may have lent it to.
3. If you know you returned the item within the last 3-5 days, chances are it is in quarantine and will be checked-in soon. Refer to step 1.
4. If you have looked everywhere and the item is truly lost, contact the library. We’ll let you know what the replacement cost will be. We will ONLY charge what it costs us to replace the item.
We hope this helps alleviate some of the stress patrons (especially parents!) have felt upon receiving those phone calls, e-mails, and letters. If you haven’t already, we hope you’ll make use of our Curbside service or Browsing appointments to begin checking out new library materials soon.
Thank You,
Cadott Library Staff
