We get a lot of questions about the Friends of the Library. Who are they? What do they do? How do I join? Well guess what? I’m going to tell you right now!
Who: The Friends of the Library are our community advocates. They’re regular library users, like you, who want to see the library thrive.
What: Primarily, the Friends focus on Fundraising initiatives to help supplement library programs and materials. Soon, they will also be seeking Fundraising options specifically for a new library building. However, we don’t just need your money! We also need help in the form of volunteers.
“Wait? Volunteering? You mean…to do stuff?” –That’s right! You can volunteer by teaching a skill, speaking about a special hobby, or any other hands-on busywork we might need an extra body to help us do, such as setting up and packing up book sale items, and doing up-keep around the library.
How: All right, so you’re ready to sign-on as an Official Friend. Amazing! Welcome! …’Cause that’s it: You’re a friend! There are no dues, just 4 quarterly meetings, and sporadic volunteer opportunities. You can learn more about our initiatives and upcoming events by joining their mailing list: https://mailchi.mp/d3b635d624f7/cadottfriends
And…the real reason I wrote out this whole spiel: You can now WEAR your Friend Status by purchasing a t-shirt during our Fundraiser. Starting at $15, these attractive cardinal red t-shirts denote your Friend-Status on the back. You can purchase now through December 11th online: bit.ly/cadottshirt2019 Don’t or can’t shop online? No problem! Pay cash with a staff member at the library, and we’ll do a batch order (Deadline: December 6th).
Save on shipping for your shirt by selecting “Pick Up”, and your shirt will be delivered to the library (Est. Date December 30th). I have my fingers crossed we’ll see these before Christmas, but I can’t make promises! Still, they make a nice gift this holiday season for anyone who loves and uses the library. We hope you’ll consider picking one (or two!) up to support the Friends.
