Cadott Community Library

It doesn’t matter how old I get. As soon as I start thinking June, Alice Cooper’s “Schools Out” inevitably begins running through my head. We still have a few days of the kids being trapped behind their desks, but I hope that once they taste freedom, they’ll begin making their way into the library for our slew of summer events.

However, I have two notes before I get into those, so bare with me. First, a word about donations. Recently, we have been receiving very large donations of books in our drop box. Usually, I’m excited to receive donations, but unfortunately these are so many in number, they’re damaging library materials. And, to top it off our donation policy doesn’t permit me to accept many of them. In general, donations should be like new or gently used. Nonfiction titles should not exceed 5 years of age; particularly in the case of anything about technology. So, please, if you have donations: bring them into the library during our regular open hours for review by myself or a staff member.

Second, I’d like to make mention of our Friends of the Library. Recently, many area businesses received letters asking for donations, and response has been positive with about $175 dollars raised as of writing. The Friends of the Library are our biggest advocates and help us in a variety of ways. Primarily, they help to supplement our budget by helping to purchase more books or to pay for performers, and by volunteering their time, skills, and yes: money. You may also not know that The Friends of the Cadott Community Library is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, which means your donations are tax deductible.

If you’d like to learn more about the Friends of the Library and how you can help, visit their webpage at: or attend their upcoming meeting on June 22nd, 11 AM, at the Cadott Family Restaurant.

Whew! That wasn’t so bad, was it? Now, what can you be looking forward to in June? In additional to our regular events, June kicks off our Pen & Paper Guild RPG group, June 19th at 4 PM. Our Kids Code Club also begins on June 27th at 4 PM. And, kicking off our summer, ages 13+ are invited to embrace our “Universe of Stories” theme by coming to DIY a clothing item during our Wear Your Universe event on Friday, June 14th at 1 PM. Attendees should bring their own black clothing item, but all other materials are provided. Check the calendar for our full slate of events, through August!
