OverDrive

What is OverDrive?

With OverDrive, you can borrow and enjoy free eBooks, audiobooks, and more from your library or school’s digital collection. All you need to get started is an internet connection and a library card or student ID.

Getting Started

1. Find your library

Download the OverDrive or Libby app to find and open your library digital collection.

2. Borrow

Borrow a title from your library or school’s digital collection. You’ll need a valid library card or student ID to complete this step.

3. Enjoy

You can enjoy many titles immediately online, dowload them for offline use, or send borrowed eBooks to a Kindle device for the duration of your lending period.

You can also transfer titles from your computer to compatible eReaders or MP3 players.

OverDrive on Andriod or iOS Device

Step 1

Install the OverDrive or Libby app from your device’s app store or from app.overdrive.com.

Step 2

Open the OverDrive app and follow the prompts to sign in (or sign up) using your library card.

Step 3

In the OverDrive app, find tour library or school’s digital collection. (You will likely be using the Wisconsin Library Consortium. It is not specific to Cadott!) Once you have found it, click or tap the collection name to start browsing. This will also automatically save the collection to your library list in the app.

Step 4

Sign into your library digital collection with your library card and borrow or place a hold on a title.

Step 5

Find borrowed titles on your “Checkouts” page (under your Account). From there you can download audiobooks, read eBooks, or listen to audiobooks from your browser.

Step 1

Install the OverDrive or Libby app from your device’s app store or from app.overdrive.com.

Step 2

In your library’s digital collection, use the “advanced search” or search filters to find and borrow and eBook that is available in the Kindle Book format.

Step 3

Go to your Checkouts page (under your Account). From there select Download, then Kindle Book, then Confirm & get Kindle Book. You’ll be taken to Amazon’s website to complete your checkout.

Step 4

On Amazon’s website, follow the on-screen prompts to “Get library book” and wirelessly deliver it to your Kindle eReader. You’ll need to sign into (or create) and Amazon account to complete this process. Once you deliver a library Kindle Book to your Kindle eReader, it works like any other Kindle Book.

Step 2

Connect your eReader to your computer.

Step 3

On your computer, open your library’s digital collection and borrow an eBook. The collection can be found by using OverDrive.com.

Step 4

Borrowed eBooks appear on your checkouts page (under your account). From there, use the Download drop-down menu to select a format for each eBook, then select “Confirm & Download”. Downloaded eBooks open in ADE.

Step 5

To transfer an eBook to your eReader, open the “Library View” in ADE. From there, drag and drop the eBook into your eReader, which should appear on the left under “Devices”. Once you’ve transferred a library eBook, you can read it on your device just like any other eBook.
